There has been some research into using tiny dwarves in modern carbs. The advantage is that unlike gnomes, dwarves are miners and can often re-open a clogged passage. Unfortunately, dwarves have a natural fear of earthquakes, as any miner should. In recent tests, the engine vibrations caused the dwarves to evacuate the Harley Davidson test vehicle and make a beeline for the nearest BMW dealership.
Sadly, BMW's are fuel injected and so the poor dwarves met an unfortunate end in the rollers of a Bosch fuel pump. Other carb problems can also occur. If the level of fuel in the float bowl rises too high, it will wipe out the Section 8 gnome housing in the lower parts of the carb. The more affluent gnomes build their homes in the diaphragm chamber, and so are unaffected. There is an issue with fitting the TM33 to some brands where there is no available room above your existing carb as it will physically replace this item except for its protruding up and forward throttle cable bracket.
Performance wise the TM33 will like all of our pumper carbs, launch your engine into a whole new world of performance over any CV. To best select an alternative replacement Mikuni Carburetor for your motorcycle please follow the steps listed out below. Due to the requirement of virtually every model bike requiring a unique set of jets, our process below will allow you to correctly select a jet kit and other associated components to your personal requirement.
On the main menu to the left of the page, hover over the carb listings for the following carb types, TM Flatslide non-pump, maybe also look at VM Round slide and TM Flatslide with accelerator pump and then select from the drop down list the desired Mikuni carburetor size option for that particular carb type.
Better venturi design and to a point a larger bore size equates to performance improvement where with Mikuni the progression ranges from the VM then TM and topped off with the TM pumper carbs on 4-stroke engines. Our TMX two stroke carbs work best with none or at worst minimal jetting on any reed valve engine over cc. When clicking on any individual size Mikuni carb from the drop down list it will put you into a page showing not only the carb itself but also any item relevant to that carb, being jets, flanges, tuner kits, cables , throttles, air-cleaners and a range of carb to OEM air box adapters to also suit.
This also makes alternate jet selection easy for you if you have your own spec as only the type jets for that particular carb are shown. The performance changes can be detected at wide open throttle in low gears- we do not recommend the operation of motorcycles over the speed limit.
Change and test with the next size jet both up or down to determine weather an improvement can be obtained and in what direction. If you notice an improvement in one direction, keep changing to the next jet size in that direction till the improvement stops and she drops off the perch , then go back one. Never drill jets and do remember that most aftermarket jets do not flow correctly. Generally if you have the right profile needle for your engine, a difference in performance and response can be detected by raising and lowering the needle.
If improvements appear in one direction of adjustment but perfection is not achieved whilst having reached the end clip on the needle, then you will need to install a richer or leaner needle if available or else a corresponding needle jet. Once having made a change its back to the middle clip position and start all over again.
An inability to tune out a problem in the mid range will indicate that the needle profile is not matched to your engine or a slide change may be required. Never change main or pilot jets to try and correct a mid-range problem.
